Why Anna is Sexy (well, one of the reasons ;-)Science and Technology

Marginal Revolution reports on fascinating research on what makes some people sexier than others - their names -

New research has revealed that the vowel sounds in your name could influence how others judge the attractiveness of your face.
Women with round-sounding names such as Laura tended to score higher than those with smaller vowel sounds. "Unfortunately for me, Amy is one of the bad names," Perfors laments.

So "Ah-Na" is good while the classic Mallu-aunty name "Ai-lee-ahm-ma" is bad (although to be honest, this often isn't just because of her name) And for the boys -

For boys, a good name will contain vowel sounds made at the front of the mouth, such as 'e' or 'i' sounds; names with fuller, rounder vowel sounds such as 'u' tend to score lower. So pat yourself on the back if you're called Ben... but if your name is Paul, you might have to work work harder to snare a date.

"V-ih-nohd" is Good. "Ah-bee" - you're screwed. ;-)

You've got it flipped. Anna is short and front of mouth (masculine); so are Vinod, Abhi, Manish, Sajit, Ennis. O, u, au are rounded and mid-mouth.

I'm saying "ahnna" as in "briana". as opposed to "ana" as in "anagram"

Vinod believe it or not you scooped me on this story that I had a draft of already going. The funny part is in my post I thought I had correctly interpreted the article (which was also on CNN's website) as MY name being sexy and your "V" starting name as being screwed. I'm glad Manish set us straight.

Regardless of the way you use your tongue to pronounce someone's name, its about HOW you use your tongue...to...ah. I like Anna, she makes my tongue do funny things.

Men/women need to procreate and the singular purpose of having a name is to match mood with availability. The whole point of having a mallu-aunty name like aleyamma is that it allows for transmission losses as passion is filtered through a paan filled mouth. If it was just a short name, why, it could have been just you hawking the spit from your throat...So Amy just wouldnt cut it...This one, although dangerous, can be tried at home...Just make sure Aleyamma aunty is not around...:-)
