Continental Airlines will add the first nonstop flight from the U.S. to India beginning Nov. 1, contingent on approval from the Indian government (via SAJA). The Newark (NYC)-New Delhi route will cosset passengers in the belly of a 777.
The only other nonstop from this continent is Air Canada’s Toronto-Delhi route. Also, Air India just added an LA-Frankfurt-Delhi flight. Thanks, open skies agreement!

I thought Air India had a non-stop from New York.
I've taken the Toronto-Delhi flight and it's not bad at all. A 15 hour flight with 3 or 4 mediocre bollywood flicks, and no legroom in the economy section. But aside from those minor annoyances it's quite doable. And they keep feeding until you can't take it anymore!
What they need are better flights...like SQ's non-stop from Newark to Singapore (17.5 hours). And if I am not mistaken - the Economy seats are actualy Economy Plus - lots more room

eeeeewwww.... just the thought of flying from Newark to Delhi nonstop makes me ill. in all honesty... anyone who's been on a flight to india can say that you definitely don't want to go to the bathroom after you're flight is halfway there b/c the bathroom is nasty. on a 20 hour flight... that's an awful long time to not go to the bathroom!

I'm with you, Naeha. This news is really exciting until you start thinking about things like bathrooms, thrombosis, etc. Plus, for those of us going elsewhere besides Delhi or Bombay (i.e. most people), you still have to stop, right?
What I'm really looking forward to are those low fares I've been hearing about since last year. I want $600 tix (or however much it ends up being)!
