We AREN'T the champions, my friends...Food

London's Restaurant magazine just released their annual list of the 50 best places to get fat-- and of course *I'd* be the Mutineer to post on this. ;)

I am slightly miffed that the list is not down with anything brown, unless New York's lauded, pan-Asian-street-food mecca Spice Market counts. Since I cannot partake of their "chicken samosas" with cilantro-yogurt, I'm inclined to say..."NO". :)

Now last year, the greatest place in the world for Dal Makhni made both the list AND the award for "Best Asian Restaurant"-- I'm talking about New Delhi's legendary Bukhara, mais oui. What a difference twelve months makes? Oh, well. I'm just amazed that a Brit magazine that listed no less than FOUR English restaurants in their top 10 couldn't find a decent curry. Whatevs.

:+:

Restaurant magazine's website has two other Sepia links:

1) There's this blurb about the most bizarrely-named award I've heard of in forever-

Amaya Indian restaurant stole the show at the Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant Awards 2005, when it won the New Restaurant of the Year award and the Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant of the Year award at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane. Part of the same group as Masala Zone, Veeraswamy and Chutney Mary, Amaya’s one disappointment came in the Indian Restaurant of the Year category, where it was beaten by Rasoi Vineet Bhatia.

and speaking of Mr. Bhatia...

2)...he'd best buy a bullet-proof ride and some earmuffs:

Vineet Bhatia of Rasoi Vineet Bhatia is to take his Indian cooking to the Russians, having just signed a deal to consult on a new restaurant site in Moscow.
Agni, which means firegod in Hindi and is similar to the Russian word for fire, refers not only to the heat of Bhatia’s cooking, but also to the four fires that are being installed into the 70-seater bar and 100-cover restaurant, to ward off the notoriously cold Russian winters.

Mmmmm, Indian food and Vodka... ;)

Greetings, amigos Please set some time aside for an eclectic selection of posts from the Indian blogosphere. This week we have 22 posts for you to sample, and as usual, I've taken some time to go beyond the nominated posts and find other noteworthy pie...

Why do you torture me with the fabulous food posts, SMers?

Thanks to THE REFLUX, I can no longer eat onions, tomatoes, spices, dairy, coffee, tea, chocolate, or indeed, anything known as 'food'.

I subsist entirely on a diet of protonix and splenda.....

OMG, MD! I look at your list and think, I'd have to get an IV because that's my entire diet! Terra chips, I could still have Terra chips. :)

My favorite combo is any tandoor product and Guinness. Note to local premier Indian restaurant (you know which one you are!): Please do not recommend gewurtzraminer as a complement to chicken tikka masala, mmkay?

If you're an enophile comme moi, try Sula 2003 Sauvignon Blanc (from vineyards in our very own Nasik) and any good Grenache Syrah/Shiraz with your Indian and Arab food. Delectable!
