Didn't know that Kimmel had his own show? Neither did I. But I can't be the only one who finds Kimmel's pasty, overweight, dude-next-door schtick an odd place for the national broadcast debut of MIA's edgy, ethnic, conflict-inspired tunes. Pray she doesn't inspire Jimmy to dance.

Just wanted to add that MIA's recent performance on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic Show is available for viewing. It is a nice chance to see an actual live performance by her, and I think the show can be dowloaded as well for podcast, but more investigation needs to be done on that. Also, MIA is scheduled to appear on KEXP, Seattle's indy station on May 11, and then on the Conan O'Brien show on the 27th of May. These dates seem to intersperse with her US tourdates where she will be co-headlining with new hipster fave, LCD soundsystem.

AFAIK there are no podcasts from KCRW's music shows. They're working on licensing and in the meantime I use the excellent RadioRecorder (Mac OS X) to grab Dragnet - a super show.

She wasn't nearly as good on TV as she was live. She doesn't have a lot of stage presence without dedicated, howling fans.
At the LA concert she lip-synched. I like her better on the radio than live.

I saw her on Jimmy Kimmel yesterday night - I like her super-galang song, but the song she did on JK was (IMHO) horrible. The fans were screaming and dancing along, sure, but anyone watching it on TV would've been permanently turned off.

Like the author, I too am both Singhalese and Tamil but unlike Edussuriya, theres no way possible for me to identify with Maya, as her life has been very different from mine. Perhaps the artist believes shes doing the right thing, and doing her best by her people but I think were all better off focusing on unity, harmony, and peace in Sri Lanka, in the US, and worldwide ...of course, that probably wouldnt draw as much attention in order to sell albums though.
