Promotions in the news (biz): The new editor of the Wall Street Journal’s European edition is desi (via SAJA). Raju Narisetti, who’s sporting an official Editor Goatee, has been with the WSJ for 11 years:

Speaking of news and stuff, has anyone seen the CNN ads? Specifically the new Lou Dobbs one called Gandhi, in which Dobbs seems to settle an argument by saying something like, "The prime minister of India is Man-á-man Singh". Its also hilarious to hear them pronounce Gandhi like Gandeee, bordering this. :).

I think this is the second time, India finds mention in these ads too, (the first one being in the Anderson Cooper ad) besides of course having a desi (Sanjay Gupta) being in one of them.

My favourite brown lady of the news is this one called Monita Rajpal

What lips...those lips...Lord Have Mercy...Bee stung lips from heaven.

Do you think if you met these people you could crack jokes with them in Punjabi and talk about dhal and roti with them? Or are they too gorafied?

Monita's lips are outrageous and saucy.

I am going to write a Chutney song about Monita Rajpal's lips.

If you scroll down here, she's got a wickedly cheeky smile on this one, and she's doing some good things with her lips in these pictures, they probably help her pronounce words better on CNN.

Do you think super-readers like Monita eat roti with their hands or do they use a knife and fork because they are so posh?

Of course, for folks on the other side of the aisle, NYT's 50-odd feature headlines on "All Abu Ghraib, All The Time" earn it the moniker the Al Jazeera of America.... Then again, it's a relatively straight line these days from BBC to Al Jazeera...

That was pretty funny, even when I read it the second time.

Here's my take: Fox is a shitty, biased news-source and Al Jazeera is just a biased news-source. I can tolerate the latter, as it's just an opinion, but the former, well, it's like listening to a guy with an opinion and a heavy lisp.

Admittedly, not as striking as Monita, but she's an eccentric fave of mine. Also, what about Daljit Dhaliwal?. I think my dad had weird crush on her, given how slavishly he used to watch ITN news my mom's subsequent eye rolling.

I think this Mishal Hussain and Daljit Dhaliwal...their English accents are so phony and posh....Daljit comes from Southall and she talks with a plum in her mouth as if she was to the manor born and is fifteenth in line to the English throne...and Mishal Hussain too...and they just have this aura of coldness about them...Monita though....she is always smiling and her smile is wider than the river Sutlej....and you just know she's a great laugh and you can have fun with her....no comparison...as for Mujahid's Punjaban....I have to see her in action....but none of them is in touching distance of this lovely lady called Monita and those lips...the only chick out there whose lips can compare is angelina jolie

Ikram: Ian Hanomansing = *SWOON*. The man is a dish. He handed me the degree I obtained from his alma mater. The degree (in all its pretentious latin glory) has been all but forgotten but the feel of his handshake remains. Uff, the way he looked at my neck (much shorter in person, he is). And the memory of his booming baritone, he had me at "Welcome to Canada Now"...You are so right about him being a rural phenomenon, noone really knows him by name in TO.
