Desi MTVTV

We may now have our own MTV Desi, but all of a sudden we also have a bunch of desis on MTV.  Sonia points us to a new MTV reality show, ingeniously (from a minimalist perspective) titled The Reality Show, that debuts tonight at 10:30p.m.

Are you a reality TV junkie? Then it’s time to take your addiction to the next step. Help MTV choose the next big star on The Reality Show.

Basically 10 final contestants or duos will compete for 9 weeks.  At the end of that period the person(s) with the most interesting “real life” will get their own reality show.  Why not?  In the running are two cousins from Virginia Beach named Karishma and Bansri.  See, it seems our dynamic duo, that apparently come from well-off families, told their parents they were coming to L.A. to work at internships.  In reality they came here just to party!  And party some more.  In fact, if they get their own show it will be a show about Indian girls partying in L.A.  Will hilarity ensue when their parents find out that they are not in fact “good Indian girls?”

Will these two party monsters have their life come crashing down when their parents show up? Will they find the hot parties and keep their parents placated with the lies? Or are they headed for a train wreck? Follow the all the cross-cultural chaos in “Karma Chameleons.”

Holla at yo’ boy.  I live in LA.  I like to party hardy too.  My parents used to think I was a hard working student but then they uncovered my double life as a blogger (among other things), and all the booze and women such a life involves.  Maybe these girls will invite me out with them some time.  I know people.  Come to think of it, why isn’t there a reality T.V. show based on my life?

“We’re Karishma and Bansri and we like the boom…”

MTV also has a relatively new show called Nick Cannon Presents Wild ‘N Out.

Watch as Nick Cannon and a new A-list celebrity lead a team of improv comedians each week as they compete against each other in the new show

One of the improv comedians is UT graduate Rasika Mathur (thanks for the tip Mona).  There is a clip (fourth one down and about a minute into the clip) on the MTV website where Rasika schools her opponent in a rap battle after the girl uses a lame-ass “curry” insult against Rasika.  Wild ‘N Out is on at 10p.m. on Thursdays.

Update: Manish points me to Rasika’s blog.

Do you think Karishma and Bansri found out about the show from Sepia Mutiny?

Here's Rasika's blog:

Have you ever taken a shower and then rubbed and smeared your face dry in stinky, disgusting, smell-like-some-Indian-father-who-did-not-shower-and-actually-thinks-nobody-will-smell-it f'ed-upness? And then the stench doesn't leave your face for an entire hour?

If so then they should definitely invite out the SM L.A. bureau chief.

Isn't it enough that we have each desi channel giving us tons of music each hour every day, that now we need an MTV desi?

"Maybe these girls will invite me out with them some time."
Get invited dude! This is SoCal!

well mtv desi's head came to the netip conference in ATL during labor day a few wkends ago..looks promising, although it's the same damn mtv in india, they add desi to it and sorta 'americanize' it...great marketing... whohooo!

 7 · epoch on September 20, 2005 10:16 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

MTV desi is aimed at 2nd gen, desi channels are aimed at an 1st gen audience.

Although thats for marketers it's not about need, its about an underexploited, niche target audience with lots of disposable income.

your desi chics just got put on the chopping block !

 10 · Sonia on September 20, 2005 11:09 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

I almost wanted them to lose so I don't have to be nervous in future episodes about what they might say/do to embarrass the brown people =)

..yes, why we all so self-conscious - as if 1 one brown person on TV represents all?? Come on lets hear an answer Sonia !

 12 · Kumar on September 20, 2005 11:25 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

sadly, at this point, one brown person on TV pretty much does represent us all.

that being said, i'd rather have these two American party girls as representation in the media than Kal Penn's fumbling fake-accented pathetic hornball in the new Van Wilder

somehow i don't think blacks in america were too happy after omarosa... anytime you have a minority celebrity, that group is gonna hope they don't f it up for the rest of them....

btw, i think kal penn made amends with harold and kumar go to white castle... and now that's he's done the namesake? he's definitely in my good books.

haha.. just voted against their show.. they looked like idiots when trying to get their show on air.. haha...

sorry charlie....looked really retarded... and trichelle was right.. who cares about gals who party... i mean, where is the drama in that? ohh..that the parents find out? come on now...

the guido italian dude with the crazy ass uncle looked more promising to be honest..

 16 · cocopuffs on September 21, 2005 09:19 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

definitely voted against this show... desi girls are by far some of the biggest hoes on the scene, do we really need to watch a show when we can just go to international night at a pseudo cool yuppie club at any big citY and watch these beasts in their natural element?

i mean come on, who cares about the brown image portrayed, your average american idiot thinks your most likely a doctor or "you must be really really smart" because ur indian...besides you definitely have a cousin who is just as retarded as Karishma and Bansri.

How gassed are these girls going to be ... Well thats not really saying much, I mean im gassed and I havent done anything notable.

 18 · Bong Breaker on September 21, 2005 09:21 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

I'm going to be controversial here. The UK has more brown faces on TV (not controversial). But American South Asians are better looking than British South Asians (controversial).

I don't suppose I have to say that me and Punjabi Boy are the exceptions. We have trans-Atlantic pimped out fitness.

What say friends?

 19 · cocopuffs on September 21, 2005 09:33 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Yea i'm going to have to go with Americans being better looking that Britons in general...haha just kidding, i've met some hot desi girls in the uk, it could just be the accent tho

 20 · Bong Breaker on September 21, 2005 09:43 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

The whole Americans being hotter than Brits thing is another can of vermiculation altogether, so let's leave that one (we have BRITISH TEETH, you have AMERICAN ASSES) and keep the focus on the brown fitties.

We both have our stunners of every hue, there are many gorgeous British and American South Asian girls and guys. But I'm talking about the average person in a party or on the street. Perhaps it's just a case of the grass being greener, but when I see piccies of American South Asian girlies I just think they look nicer. A key factor is they don't all have straightened hair (de rigeur en Angleterre). I don't know what girls think about the fellas on either side of the pond.

 21 · Sonia on September 21, 2005 09:49 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Totally generalizing - but most of the British girls all look the same. The same tight clothes on the same skinny bodies with the short, straight black hair. (Am I allowed to say that as an American, or can I only say it if I'm British so I don't offend anyone?)

Oh, and to answer your question, I think British guys are hotter. They seem more refined and put together.

 22 · O'Ya Bula Bula Bi on September 21, 2005 09:57 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

So some of you guys voted against those two desi chics just cause they is desi ? If they weren't desi, I guess you wouldn't have cared much to vote against them eh?

Now speaking of em chikitas - I think the Brit Desi gals are a lot hotter !

 23 · Bong Breaker on September 21, 2005 09:57 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Sonia, you speak the truth sister. On both counts.

 24 · FOB like me on September 21, 2005 10:18 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Yeah I guess, its the accent that makes them hotter.

When a FOB like me looks at both American desi and British desi Gals, I dont know why I am drooling at both.....

Both are hotties in my eyes......

 25 · FOB like me on September 21, 2005 10:28 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

My wife (from holy India) just read my last comment.....I didnt know that she was behind my back

Oh no! people save me, she is chasing me with a broom.....me running....hope I dont get hurt....

 26 · Bong Breaker on September 21, 2005 11:34 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

If you're bringing Indian Indian girls into the equation FOB like me...well then they're the hottest. Honestly another league. Nothing to do with the fact that my girlfriend is from India... ;)

 27 · cocopuffs on September 21, 2005 11:56 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

i'll give it ladies in india...i partied with some femina models a couple years back...although the hottest desi i've seen by far was in a village in U.P.---swear to gods.

FOB like me ---- hahahah

dude American desi grrls are aight...kanye says it well
'Now I aint sayin she a gold digger
But she aint messin wit no broke nigga'
my solution to the problem, go after other brownies...brazilians in particular...put em in a sari, you can't tell the difference

chick pea -- haha no doubt, i'm goin to check out your blog

i'm guessin you don't fall into that category of ladies ;) question... where are you ladies hiding??? i've tried looking...i always come across "indian princess" types trying to pass as if they have substance and to my dismay 3 days later i find out her friends are Prada, BMW,and Visa. I mean i like nice things, but a conversation about the new line of manolo blahniks isn't my idea of stimulating conversation.

 32 · VeenaJeenaTina on September 21, 2005 01:24 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Since the trend here is to make wild declarations without any empirical evidence/data, in addition to the topic at hand being entirely subjective, I will continue the pattern: Canadian and Australians are def the hottest.

 33 · O'Ya Bula Bula Bi on September 21, 2005 01:25 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Ohh darn, Sonia is marriedddd !!!!

 34 · cocopuffs on September 21, 2005 01:33 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

VeenaJeenaTina --- Canadian and Australian??? are you kidding me... i have empirical data proving that indns in canada are a 2.35 orders of magnatude less attractive than indns in the states.
I'd show you the report except its classified, you'll be amazed at the reports which get funded here at the CIA, thanks president Bush

except its classified,

Oh, so you mean it's fabricated? (seems to be synonomous with classified).

SeemaNinaLeena -- your aptitude for detecting sarcasm is extremely high

perhaps if i use your method of bolding adjectives to transcend my sarcasm, more people will realize its a joke!

thanks (seems to be synonomous with 'your wit astounds me')

just playin'

who says uk and usa are the only places for us desi ppl. how bout em down under desis and them arbi desis.

I think the british accent..is something anyone can learn. and once u can speak like that it ceases to be hot anymore.

1. hotness....for desi ppl is a lottery. ever seen a hot girl with an uaverage sister, mom and dad.ive seen lots its cos we are all soo mixed that.. bits and peices from generations ago may or may not produce a super modal.

But immigration to certain regions is definatly related to your background.

all desi kenyans are gujju
all desi on wes coast US and cnaada are punjabi
all uk brown ppl(except london) are pakistani or bengali
all singapore, malaysia desi are tamil
Most Arbi dubai desi are malayalee.

but because of reason number one. we can predict the overall look of the girl.. but with varrying degres of error.

i went home this weekend finally saw mtv desi..brother tabouli and i had such a hoot watching some of the programs on the channel.. .they have some sort of 'road rule's' which looked SO utterly lame it was pathetically funny...the other videos and such were okay..i think we almost cried with laughter it was so stupid...

what was even more classic, is the super sweet 16 with the fugly divya and priya was on later on that evening and i got to show spicy falafel and baba ganoush this over the top party.
