Britney Tikka MasalaHumor

britandkfuggg.jpg BREAKING NEWS (well, sort of) via PEREZ HILTON (and tipster Simran):

Casually dressed erstwhile pop superstar Britney Spears attended an event at a Malibu mandir yesterday, Feder-spawn never out of her arms. More pictures of her doing so are available here.

At least this is one occasion where it was appropriate and not disgusting for Brit-Brit to be shoe-free.

Seriously though, motherhood agrees with her— and so does going to mandir. While I have NEVER been a fan and I am gloating that she’s not wearing her ring (DUMP HIM! You still have a chance! Turn your future “Behind the Music” ep around NOW!), I sincerely hope she got something out of her trip to temple.

Anyone have any idea why she was there? After some lazy googling, I haven’t discovered further details so I leave it to you, Mutineers. Kindly call your religious cousins in or near Malibu and beg them for deets, thanks. ;)

Coincidently, Perez Hilton has another South Asia-related post today yesterday: Gillian Anderson flips out on an Sri Lankan Airlines flight...

Anderson repeatedly berated the man - who was travelling with his wife and son - for not looking after his child, according to another passenger.

Flight attendants then moved Anderson to another seat, where Jones claims she covered herself with a blanket and cried for over an hour.

The London manager of Sri Lankan Airlines KRISHAN PERERA, insists, "There has not been any complaint from passengers. For us it is of no significance whatsoever that she is a famous actress."

Oh, Scully.

That's surreal. I have spent sooo much time in that temple. Not that I'm a celebrity worshipper or anything. But I actually recognize the structure.

PS talking about jumping the shark. Hinduism is on it's way down in the American pop culture universe. Way down.

Looking forward to your report chickpea...as am tad curious about whole thing (in a guilty-about-caring-about-celeb-gossip-but-defensive-about-it-at-the-same-time Miranda Hobbes sort of way; “Its my thing. Get over it”).

After some lazy googling, I haven’t discovered further details

the google search was fruitless for me as well

I haven't been to the Malibu temple in ages so I don't remember but do they have free 'prasadam' after the day's pujas? If so..maybe the britster went for that? ;-)

Jokes aside, how weird!Like everyone else, I thought she was into the Kaballah as well. It's interesting to see celebrities trying to find grounding in one faith or another. If it is not a new diet or exercise fad, then it's some new spiritual outlet. I hope she finds her peace after that loser excuse for a husband that she married.

ecchh.....she's the last person needed to be seen with a bindi. Let's hope it doesn't become a gwen stefani moment.

with bitney's habits, she could be trying to pretend to be haute couture , but once again, is just a wee tad slow. the blech from her hair dye's dripping into her brain again. no need to get that excited. ah, but her and what's his arse are perfect for each other. may she one day grow up to be a woman, instead of being a perennial peter pan. and may she get clothing that fits her properly, covering everything.

divya, i KNOW that's so cool, lol. i agree with you! the last thing she needs is more people fawning over her, making her ego bubble even higher than it already is. i think i would have not only squiermed, but had a few less than pleasnt bodily reactions, and wondered about sanity. man, i already have a friend who's britney crazy, and his reality cheque bounced some time ago.

good one jane! i hope she doesn't try to become sikh next. what a way to ruin faih, i tell ya. i wonder if some 'hollywood insider' didn't tell her - hey, brit, india's becoming fashionable again, go over and show everyone how cool it is.' course, india's doesn't need to be any part of fashion fad, especially one connected with whorish nuts jobs like that. now if, like, say, the wallfowers met rabbi shergill, and they got together and jammed, well.....! it makes me sooo sick when some pop airhead goes overseas, minces about, flaunts their pop-iness to infect other countries with their god aweful sound and lack of fashion influences and rampant behaviours, and then people are like 'sooo coollll.....britney visited a temple in india, so and so is into this or that, so now we gotta get into it'. and then once it's no longer cool, people drop the idea for the next fad. reallly sad.

btw, gwen stefani, brat-ney...you know, methinks we need more sardar posts. i hear rabbi the ever adorable is working on a new album......supposed to be focusing on his travels more. i had heard a title possibility months ago, but gotta find it again.

It is highly possible that they have no clue who she is and think she's just another white woman in the temple. Do you really think anyone from our parents generation knows what Brittney Spears looks like?

I wondered about the choice of clothing, too. But God sees the person, not the clothing, methinks, and better one not avoid visiting a temple for mere lack of cultually 'ideal' clothing. I do sometimes wear jeans to temples, too, and I've seen plenty of women in saris expose more flesh than Britney is in those jeans.

Speaking of temples and apparel, there was a local mandir here that, a few years back, imposed a 'no jeans' policy; based upon my observations during my last visit, it seems to be no longer in effect. (Sure, saris and salwar-kamizes are nice if you drive to the temple from the 'burbs, but what about those of us taking the bus accross the city, and hiking through snow drifts from the bus stop?) I can't imagine that it would be easy for a 'neophyte' sari-wearer (as Britney would be, I suppose) to handle a young baby at the same time. I think she looks pretty 'momly' in these photos, much better than the glammed-up superstar look, IMHO.

Google success! The Bosh reports that she was just there to get a blessing for the baby. Cute. Might as well cover all of your bases.

The Bosh:

Pop diva Britney Spears (sans Kevin Federline) took her baby boy. Sean Preston to a Hindu temple for a blessing.

...though the bindi is on her and not the baby.

Here is one for you. A young sardar spin bowler from Luton is on the verge of becoming the first Sikh to play cricket for England - and that too, against India!

He is, however, acknowledged to be one of the most talented slow bowlers on the county circuit and, at just 23, he has plenty of time to improve.
Extra facts: Monty is a nickname. His real name is Mudhsuden Singh Panesar, and he would be the first Sikh to play for England.

It seems like he may have to improve his batting average, but if he is not picked for the current tour of India, it is only a matter of time until he becomes England's first Punjabi cricketer.

More here:

The last step, becoming the first Sikh to play Test cricket for England, may not be far away. At a time when England’s stock of spin- bowling talent is at an all-time low, somebody as young and talented as Panesar, whose long fingers can really turn the ball, cannot be ignored for long. Last week David Graveney, the chairman of selectors, said this could be the year Panesar gets his chance on the international stage.
Panesar, who long ago gave up Mudhsuden in favour of the family nickname of Monty, learnt cricket with Luton Indians, then an all-Indian team that played to a good standard in the Hertfordshire League (it has since merged successfully with Luton Town, formerly made up of British whites).
Another turning point was spending a month before he went to Australia doing voluntary work on a farm near Edmonton, Canada, run by a Sikh guru. Panesar described it as a defining moment in his life: “He told me to go home and concentrate on cricket, to give it my passion. That’s what I aim to do. He has really motivated me.”

Pattie Kaur,

i hope she doesn't try to become sikh next. what a way to ruin faih, i tell ya

Well, not necessarily. It depends on her interpretation of the religion and whether she implements the core humanitarian tenets in her own life, regardless of whether or not she formally adopts the faith. As long as she picked up a non-gimmicky, accurate interpretation of the basic values and practised them properly, it might actually have a positive effect on her.

one connected with whorish nuts jobs like that.

With all due respect Pattie, if you are going to promote Sikhism in any of your posts, can I politely request you not to simultaneously use that kind of language, especially in reference to other people. I'm no saint either, as I've said repeatedly on this blog on previous occasions, but you cannot endeavour to promote some aspect of Sikhism if, in the same breath, you are going to act in violation of its humanitarian principles with regards to how you treat people.

Anyway.....

Another turning point was spending a month before he went to Australia doing voluntary work on a farm near Edmonton, Canada, run by a Sikh guru.

For the benefit of people browsing SM who are not familiar with the basics of Sikhism, can I just clarify that the Times article is inaccurate in its use of the term "guru" above. There are indeed Sikhs who have a more religion-focused life and may dedicate themselves to promoting the faith's teachings or practising some aspect of it as detailed above; however, Sikhism does not have any modern-day "gurus". The only gurus the faith acknowledges are the 10 historical individuals from Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind Singh inclusive, along with the scriptures termed the Guru Granth Sahib which Guru Gobind Singh nominated as his eternal successor.

of all the (heinous) outfits Britney Spears could possibly turn up in public wearing, I think jeans and a pullover is pretty decent. No tube tops or dorsal cleavage at the mandir... so she did pretty well. And seriously y'all-- if she'd showed up trying to wear a sari or lengha or something, you can't seriously tell me you wouldn't have ripped her to shreds for being a poser and a wanna-be.

Jeans vs. sari are not the only choices - Britney could have worn formal western clothing out of respect for the temple (as for church).

my apologies, jai. i was was trying to point out that she'll do anything for a fad, and i'm hoping that someone with her views and actions will not try to take the same view on sikhism. she's a bad enough influence, and it makes me sick to think that these little pranks she pulls are cute. she's making a mockery of every thing others consider sacred. that was the whole idea. i had meant in relations to her actions, not thecore human itself, which could change, and if that had been the case, well...that'd be a different story.

or at VERY leasy, wore soemthing that covers her midriff, and clothing that fits appropriately - not pants that are too tight and too long, and a shirt that look spraypainted on, and the person who did it left the job undone.

i mean, gosh, i admit, i'm not perfect, and (as we all are) i'm still learning, but crikees, it doesn't take a degree in rocket science to learn how to dress properly and do one's hair decently, especially as a wife and mother. wether we like it or not, she's considered a role model by some....and actions like what she does do not show couth. plus, what britney does is based on gimmick. that's the whole idea.

tsk..tsk...where have all the culture and tradition gone. When I go to my place of
worship ( which incidently is a Hindu temple) I am dressed in clean semi formal clothes.
I dress to work that way, and that is how I go to worship my God.... remember Work is
worship?. I do not unshaven or wear Jeans or T-shirt, neither does anyone in my family.

I am not a Hindu fanatic or even a very religious person, but I believe that one should
look at their best, that shows respect and organization to oneself and to the supreme
being. Look at some of the older Christian folks ( I mean all- Catholics, Protestants, et al)
men are dressed in crisp suits and ladies in their nicest dress going to church
(Sunday's best), even Homer Simpson and family - although Homer and Bart do it
unwillingly. Definitely worth emulating. I see folks in the temple wearing shorts, torn
jeans, even pajamas. Not really calling for a dress code here, but people should use
their consciousness to understand the decorum of the sanctum.

Pattie Kaur,

I can understand your concerns about Britney misrepresenting Sikhism Kabbalah-style or turning it into some kind of gimmick -- it's the last thing we need, and God knows there's enough of that kind of thing already within some quarters of the Indian popular media, especially in those Saas-Bahu serials on the Star Plus channel. However, let's be careful about using verbal abuse towards Britney (or anyone else) if it's in the context of a discussion about Sikhism. I'm assuming you read my post a little while ago mentioning exactly why I discreetly dropped the "Singh" from my SM handle; we don't want to malign the faith by our actions, and if we do decide to discuss anything related to the religion, let's make sure that the contents and tone of our comments are fully in line with Sikh principles.

Baby is quite cute.

fyi...
The Bosh says:
Britney Spears has had baby son Sean Preston blessed at a Hindu temple.
The pop babe - who has previously dabbled with Kabbalah, a mystical offshoot
of the Jewish faith - took the four-month-old tot to a service at a temple
in Malibu.
The 24-year-old star - who attended the ceremony without husband Kevin
Federline - was even adorned with a red Bindi, the spot Hindi women wear on
their foreheads, as she left the service.
A source is quoted in Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying: "Kevin wasn'
t there, but Britney was relaxed and smiling.
"And she was happy for photographers to get close to Sean Preston."
Earlier this week, the sexy star fuelled rumours her marriage is on the
rocks when she was photographed shopping in California without her wedding
ring on.
An onlooker claimed: "Britney didn't look very happy as she shopped for
flowers and was chatting away on her phone."
