ALM, It is a very famous bollyoood song by Geeta Dutt from around 1958. Should we even stop singing songs? Recently, from India Night at Corvallis where they played this on audio-visual on Bollywood history, it has been playing in my head. It also has very Elvis-like dance sequence. It is one of most common wedding and antakshri songs.

BTW, my sister-in-law (my twin brother's wife) is a Chinese (Taiwanese)-origin American.

I still xatch John Wayne movies, Gone with the wind, etc. We can't live without such things.

Yes, but not in cricket at all. It is very well established term. Even though the origins of chinaman in cricket might slightly goofy, but now it is an established term. Here is the history:

During the Trent Bridge Test match Richie Benaud gave the following explanation of its origin.

"It started with EE Achong, the chinese left arm spinner from the West Indies. He bowled orthodox but he also bowled over the wrist and he had Walter Robins stumped by about six yards at Old Trafford in the 1933 Test match.

"As he walked back to the side-on pavilion he said to Joe Hardstaff Snr, the umpire, 'fancy being done by a bloody chinaman', and that's where the thing started. And from that point on that type of bowler has always been known as a Chinaman."

in the US, it would definitely be considered racist. maybe not as much in india a few years back. while i am not sure about the attitudes today, half a dozen years ago, i hardly ever remember even talking about chinese in any case in india. leave alone make derogatory comments. at that time, china was not on the radar like it is now.

it is like the discussion about "pakis" on another thread. in india, the word paki is neither racist nor derogatory in itself but just a short form. if i am not mistaken, cricket commentaries sometimes use the word too!
