what's the story behind the ferris wheel dude?

All the rides were hand-powered, and not even hand-cranked -- there are no machines from classical physics being used here :) Kids get rides in little kiddie cars that are hand-pushed, the merry-go-rounds I saw are hand-rotated and so on.
