Only 23 hours to go!Meetups!

Just a reminder, the next SF meetup is tomorrow:

Sunday August 6th, 3 PM at Chaat Cafe in SOMA, SF.

Vinod and I will be there for sure. He has promised me that SF meetups are far more rocking than those in NYC, because left-coasters are just so much more hip than those on the right coast.

I don’t know about V, but personally I’m counting the minutes.

Far more WHAT? Don't let Cicatrix hear you say that. And SF hipness lasts until the Muni stops running -- what time is that again? 11pm?

"New Yorkers don't hang out from 5pm until 3am for nothin'."

have fun! :)

Even though I won't be contributing to the hipness quotient, and I'm not very good at trash-talking in the east coast v. west coast debate, I'll see you guys there!

i'm pretty new to sepiamutiny - months old - thanks for putting up such great stuff - blogs and comments - but i am de-lurking for a minute to ask if there has ever been a meetup in southeast michigan? how do you decide where to have them? while i hope not to be in ann arbor in 2 more years, it would be wonderful to have one here in the meantime. i'm having small town claustrophobia.

As far as memory serves, the BART station is right by there on Market street. Right?

 6 · runnerwallah on August 5, 2006 09:39 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

There's a BART on Market & New Montgomery, which is about 3 blocks away from Chaat Cafe.

Thanks for delurking with such kind words for us, Ruki. We have not had a meetup in Michigan. I'm pasting some information below from a different meetup thread which explains why we've had meetups where (NYC, SF, LA, DC, Toronto, Philadelphia) we've had them.

.................................................................

WHO HOSTS/ATTENDS WHERE
.................................................................

Abhi: LA (also: DC-- hometown/where parents live, a fact hereinafter indicated by an asterisk by city name; soon to close down LA bureau and open Houston bureau)

Amardeep: Philly (possible: DC* and NYC...I think)

A N N A : DC, NYC, SF* (possible: Philly)

Ennis: Chicago (possible: SF, NYC*)

Neha: Toronto

Sajit: DC

Siddhartha: NYC (possible: DC*)

Vinod: SF, NYC (possible: Houston*)

personally... i'm a huge fan of having a meetup in ATL!!! there's a definite discrimination going on against the Southern Mutineers.

They're doing it just to persecute you, obviously.

I thought it was collective punishment for that NASABA-Meth Merchant lovefest.

Once again, Vinod, Coolio, and I are in complete concordance.

By the way, any Mutineers/Dhaamal heads checking out Maneesh's soiree after the meetup? If you're invited and in need of transportation, perhaps we can carpool.

 19 · chick pea on August 6, 2006 07:57 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

all mixed up, there will likley never be an atl meetup (well that is what my fortune 8 ball is telling me), hence you will need to either levitate to another location to attend, or possibly capture one of the mutineers and hold them for ransom...;)

Oh, and while I can't committ 100%, I might be at the NYC meetup a week from now ;)

Ok have we fixed the NYC meetup venue? Or do we take a random hike through Central Park and hope to run into each other.

Have the details for the NYC and DC meetups been finalized? Where/when are they going to happen?

 24 · Janeofalltrades on August 6, 2006 10:39 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

The NYC Meetup is on Sunday the 13th @ Talvin Singh in Rumsey Playfield. I'll be there at 2:00 pm. It WILL get packed. Anyone interested in herding earlier email me and we can coordinate. (Wish there was a SM jhanda)

 25 · A N N A on August 7, 2006 12:34 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

The DC Meetup will be at Amma's again, but the question is, for which meal?

Should we have brunch there like Barmaid, Chai and I tend to (there's nothing like a cup or three of madras coffee first thing in the afternoon) do? Dinner after an afternoon spent drinking on the waterfront? Dinner before? No matter what we decide, it's a great space and they let us take the entire thing over last time, which made the experience extra fun. :)

As for New York on the 13th, I'd love to meet up somewhere simple before we all walk over, that way we're going as a group to meet the summerstage vets. Since it tends to get crowded, let's aim early? Thoughts?

Tamarind's tea room is awesome. It has the best desi wraps and desserts in town. Though it's kinda unwalkable from there to the park. Otherwise, isn't there a Bukhara somewhere midtown?

 27 · Ennis on August 7, 2006 01:34 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Or you could meet somewhere simple, like in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on the steps, and walk from there to Rumsey.

I don't think there was nearly enough alcohol involved in the last DC meetup, so I vote for this plan, :).

As for the NYC meetup, I think meeting somewhere and walking over is a good idea, and I think the organizing mutineers should just go ahead and make an executive decision as to where.

Ennis that's a really good idea but again the steps are wide and on a summer day packed. We'll run in the same issues as at Rumsey Playfield. How about Starbucks @ 76th & Columbus???

Thought the venue is closer to the Upper East Side...?
I doubt that a sea of brown lingering by the Museum steps will be easily missed.

or lunch and drinks.

ohhh who am I kidding, I'd do brunch and drinks :P

You'd be surprised. And it won't be a sea based on the previous NYC meetup people stroll in over time so unless you want to go up to every brown person you see on the steps and say "SM?" :-) there is no other way. But I give up. I want to make sure I just get into the venue by 2:00 to set up and find a spot. It would be best to meet at the 72nd street enterance on Fifth Avenue into the park, it's a smaller enough entrance where a group of people can be easily spotted.

*suggestion to the overworked intern* Can the monkey put the meetups in the events tab too?
It is closer to 5th, but there's no place to hang out anywhere around there. I'm talking... not even street meat. So, who else will be there early to stake out space for the mutiny? We need volunteers. oh... and food... i'll bring turkish baklava if people like that stuff. Rich, honey soaked, strips of thin pastry dough covered with pistachio crumbs. I am not bringing the chaya. can we get a head count so we know how many much square footage we might need. and how much food we'll have available. its all about the food.
