Oh, Beloved Papaya...Haiku

Don’t cry, little one.

We heart you, dear Sanjaya.

May your haters rot.

::

Have you a haiku for Sanjaya, too?

i have high hope for sanjaya - where's the oprah appearance, reality show, and subsequent album release? Then when he's all washed up he'll be on "When They Were Famous" and "E True Hollywood Story" and then even AFTER that he'll be on the "Surreal Life"

it is NOT over.

If any of you would like to compose a haiku in Papaya's honor, I think that would be sweeter than a mango froooti. It's certainly less work than coming up with a 55-word story. :D

Haiku A style of lyric poetry borrowed from the Japanese that typically presents an intense emotion or vivid image of nature, which, traditionally, is designed to lead to a spiritual insight. Haiku is a fixed poetic form, consisting of seventeen syllables organized into three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables. [link-aya]

I was actaully rooting for him in the end.

I saw this segment on the E channel about him and he has had a really hard life in his short time on earth.

When he was younger, his parent's divorced, which was considered strange because his dad is a priest in the Hari Krishna faith and a priest is only allowed to divorce under the most severe circumstances. What ever that means! Since his dad was a priest, he earned no money at all and when his parent's got divorced, his mom got custody of both children and they ended up on welfare.

His mom then remarried to a man that was a real good guy and loved her kids, but then he died.

Both kid's still have a good relationship with their father.

And on top of that, all of America want's to make a huge joke out of him!

I really do wish him the best.

Dear Sanjaya,

I adored your hair, swooned over your smile and drooled over your designer duds, but can't help but wonder...did an "asian tragedy" help boot you off the show? I think so...sadly so. Keep the dream alive.

With love,

Saira

Saira,
I highly doubt the V-Tech tragedy had anything to do with Sanjaya getting voted off. I mean, only readers of SM and Schussel(sp?) knew of any connection (fictional or otherwise) between South Koreans and half South Asian half Italians :)

mfunnierthanyou: Thanks for doubting the theory, but after visiting the Midwest for work, you'd be surprised how many people equated the original "asian" comment with India, Pakistan, China, Japan, and Koreas. It was a crazy suggestion by a few to suggest 38 million votes on AI also equated Sweet Sanju with being Asian (as most press does not mention his half Italiano background). I, too, thought it was silly, until I sat in an unnamed airport listening to delayed Midwestern passengers rant about Asian in the Media (no link to the actual media blog).

I wish him well. He had something that has been so undervalued: class. People booed him in a game, mocked him in the media, blamed him for being in American Idol , made insuinations about his sexuality, (TMZ was especially shameless among the media) and the judges hated him. Yet, he never showed his anger at the thousands of insuiniations and never judged the people harshly despite being only 17. About Cowell, who was very rude to him, this is what he said,

"He's an amazing person, and what he does is awesome," Malakar said. "He's very opinionated, but I learned more from him than anyone else when I was on the show."

If I was in his place, I would not have been able to say that. And that counts for something.

To Simon's credit, I've heard he's very different off-camera than on. On camera, he knows he's got a certain image to uphold, he can't come off as Mr. supportive when those Beta SP's are rolling...

In response to the ridiculous comments about Sanjaya by the Indian media: Found this on Sanjaya's fan page on American Idol.com.

It is with some pain in our hearts that we are writing this. Some silly clowns in India (India=New Delhi & Bombay for them)have issued hurried comments on Sanjaya. We wish to bring this to everyone's notice that their views are strictly personal and the rest of Indians (we are above 1.1 Billion people) have nothing to do with these clowns who choose a bollywood prostitute to hold the prestigious Olympic Torch. It did hurt our sentiments deeply and we, the large majority unfortunately have no say in this.

With Sanjaya, the same thing has happened, they have made America almost believe that we Indians do not support Sanjaya.

This is utterly false and we wish to let America and Sajaya know that there are thousands (Possibly millions) who Love him - for his talent and appeal. This is true, not because he appears to be Indian, well love surpasses all class, creed, religion or country anyways - but because he is the next Emperor of Pop Music. He is the future to come. We love him, and wish him a very successful career in music and entertainment.

Please do not go by what New Delhi press issues. They are just the self-proclaimed spokes-people of this country who have nothing to do with the sentiments of the rest of our population here. It is disgusting to see them even commenting, as Sanjaya has never said anywhere he is an Indian! DOES IT MATTER AT ALL?

We love Sanjaya and support him wholeheartedly and would like Sanjaya to read this.

All the very best Sanjaya

A big Fan base from India

Simon has a very different personality on and off the show. I saw him on an interview with Oprah (yes, I watch Oprah) and he shared everyone else's opinion: Sanjaya was an extremely sweet and likable person, but his voice was not up to par--and that's what the contest is about. I liked his sweetness, I liked his mannerisms and I liked his personality.

I never believed that Simon was being "too" mean, but that he was the only honest and down to earth judge on the show.
