Would Apu let him get away with it?Animals

Super cute high jinks, brought to you by DJ Drrrty Poonjabi, the BBC and the letter S. :)

A seagull has turned shoplifter by wandering into a shop and helping itself to crisps. The bird walks into the RS McColl newsagents in Aberdeen when the door is open and makes off with cheese Doritos
Shop assistant Sriaram Nagarajan said: “Everyone is amazed by the seagull. For some reason he only takes that one particular kind of crisps.”
The bird first swooped in Aberdeen’s Castlegate earlier this month and made off with the 55p crisps, and is now a regular.

Look, he even shares!

Once outside, the crisps are ripped open and the seagull is joined by other birds.

Clever birdie…

Mr Nagarajan said: “He’s got it down to a fine art. He waits until there are no customers around and I’m standing behind the till, then he raids the place.
“At first I didn’t believe a seagull was capable of stealing crisps. But I saw it with my own eyes and I was surprised. He’s very good at it.
“He’s becoming a bit of a celebrity. Seagulls are usually not that popular but Sam is a star because he’s so funny.”

Happy Friday, Mutineers. Join us next week, when Sam is kidnapped by Britney, and trained to retrieve funyuns and altoids, y’all (for Sean Preston, of course).

The newscaster goes, "There's little to stop a bird that's feeling peckish!"

How gullible does he think his viewers are that they'll fall for these puns? They're just not fly.

Jonathan must have taken a more than just a spiritual fall from his high flying former life.

What is the word for gull in Tamil? From their behavior, generally annoying screeches, and their presence in America, I vote for vellai kaaka (white crow).

Nice, this story should replace the "a crow threw stones into a jug" in a few years. :)

My Tamil avian vocab is limited limited to: chicken, pigeons, crows, peacocks. As such all birds must be reclassified to fit in this simplified taxonomy. So I will say seagull = kadal pura (i.e. sea pigeon). In any case the bird must pay restitution.

I like your minimalist approach. However, if you've listened to just 10 Tamil songs in your entire life, you must've heard of Kuyil (cuckoo). Oh, and eagle is kazhugu, I think. Or is that hawk? Chickenhawk is kozhi-kazhugu then, I assume.

not far from the truth, if you ask some sailors who refer to them as pigeons of the sea.

this reminds me of the bit in charlotte's web where they try to feed bacon to the pig. and, yes, i still continue to be astounded by the seemingly disproportionate amount of tamil speakers at SM.

I was suggesting that the Mutineers punish the seagull for its larceny by preparing a nice biryani from it. What you are suggesting is just plain sick...

At one time it looked like Punjabi speakers were disproportionate as SM commentors. It is cyclical, I guess.

The South Malayalam will rise again! Ah, who am I kidding. It so won't. I've actively helped to further the viral dissemination of "kundi" to the diaspora and I'll have to be happy with that.

I'm grateful for all the unexpected Tamil which has popped up lately, since it's fun to see how much I understand. That and I get to make gratuitous references to thayir sadham and lemon rice in my posts. Mmmm, lemon rice...
