Congrats, Aarti!Profiles

The Hill has more beautiful people for us, 40 more, in fact. The first one caught tipster DTK’s attention (thanks!).

Aarti Nayak, scheduler for Rep. Julia Carson (D-Ind.), doesn’t like skiing one bit, but that’s where she met her husband, Dave — on the slopes.
“He had a little blond girlfriend at the time,” she says with a wry smile. But when Nayak came into the picture, well, the blond was history. They have been married since September. She hopes to have kids.

Aarti Hill.PNG Considering today’s hot comment threads/topics, it seems appropriate to wonder what kind of wedding they had?

Was it meant to be? Nayak reads astrological signs, although she’s not a fervent believer.
During college at Virginia Tech, she and a friend wrote blurbs on astrological signs for the Eccentric, a student newspaper — they were called the “psychic sisters.”
At any rate, she doesn’t look one bit “psychic.”

What the H-E-double-toothpicks does a “psychic” look like? Enough with this paranormal profiling!

The first-generation American from an Indian family twirls her dark, curly hair, which her friends have compared to singer-model Toni Braxton’s locks.

Let me channel “chip-on-her-shoulder-Auntie”: “Vy they had to compare her to Toni Braxton? Minnie Driver also has such hair! Harrumph! Racist!” ;)

But makeup is not very important to her.
“I don’t care anymore,” she explains.

Even about lipgloss?? Say it isn’t so, my sweet sister…perhaps you just need some Hindu lips.

When it comes to beauty, Nayak is gently scornful of contests and pageants. She said one of their past interns participated in pageants and waved the Miss America wave.
“Who are these girls anyway?” she asks skeptically.

Oh, and as for her auspicious placement at the top of the list:

Other than the Top 10 , the rest of these beautiful people are not ranked in any specific order.

Suuuuuuuuuure they aren’t.

It used to be Asian girls we were worried about and now these pretty Indians have started taking away the cute white guys as well. Dave and I had a real thing you know, I even pretended to like skiing to be with him. Why can't she find one of her own?

2 thumbs up, LittleBlondGirl. What's with all the hot brown sistas going after white girls. Who am I suppossed to date? Ann Coulter? I don't have Dinesh D'Souza's looks.

ANNA, I think #10 on the original top 10 list is desi also (or her parents are both of "Indian origin," which I assume means desi, not American Indian).

Shame on you as she is a Christian as well, much like yourself!! It's easy to get overlooked when you don't have a completely desi-fied name!!

Thanks for delurking, just to shame me.

You're right, how dare I overlook a Christian whom I did not see, since the tipster sent me to a different link than this:

Despite my being swamped at work AND our being on hiatus here at SM, you are so right, I should have spent hours combing through fluff to make sure I didn't give people an opportunity to point at me and laugh like Nelson. Whatever was I thinking.

Seriously-- I can give you guys one of two things: "light" posts like this and the ones I've done recently, which don't take a toll on me, time and effort wise, so there's at least SOME new content here

or

no posts at all, if we're going to play the "unless it's perfect, don't bother!" game.

Which would you prefer?

But ANNA, as a non-obviously "desi-named", Christian, Republican ABD, aren't you morally obligated to do a background search on anyone who even remotely has similar biodata? I bet she is Mallu, too, thus compounding your failure to defend the race!

By the way I have loved both these posts. I'm not saying that to be sycophantic, just saying it because I am giggling in my office trying to keep my workmates from realizing that I am reading a faux conversation between BBM/LBG, not crunching crime stats.

“Considering today’s hot comment threads/topics, it seems appropriate to wonder what kind of wedding they had?”

I think it was a modest one, substance and style over grandeur. I think they both love food, so more concentration was given to the menu.

As for the ceremony, traditional all the way, (whatever traditions they uphold). The Mahraj or priest would have been educated and cool, and made the guest laugh with his sly wit.

First dance, “earth angel” by the penguins or (but not that likely) “tery bin” by Nusrat fateh Ail Khan.

And the drunk uncle with the white suit jacket would have got arrested for indecent exposure!

Well that’s how I imagined it. ;)

Light posts anna keep them coming, I thought you all were going on a break??

That fact you guys are still posting at this rate earns much respect! So Rezpect!

Well, after three years of being criticized for my shitty writing, my obesity, my black skin, my anti-Hindu bias, my anti-Muslim prejudice and my status as a single female (among other things), I've learned to take everything at its worst possible meaning, especially if such a sassy comment is coming from someone who has never spoken here before, thus preventing me from having any context for their words. I'm sorry I took it so personally, if you didn't mean it the way I thought you did. Wow, that was convoluted. Maybe they were right about the writing. ;)

I guess I'm better off lurking! The one time I took the time to slack from work and actually provide a comment...my bad!

No, you are not better off lurking. I love when people delurk. I work hard to make this place open and safe and I would be sad if I, of all people, were the reason you felt that way. Again, I'm sorry. The thing is, if you ARE a lurker, then you know that I'm a lightning rodd for assholery, so perhaps that can provide you with some context for my meowing and hissing. I promise, I can haz senz of humor? Rly!

Come to think of it, I may have posted once or twice before, as well as tried to submit a topic for a post, but that was a really long time ago. But hey, some participation is better than none, and even then, at least I'm a fan of the site!

One of my cousin’s Christian friend named his son Bill and ..he revealed later that the full name is Bill Clinton and he named his son after Bill Clinton because his son was born after the historic visit of the great President Bill Clinton to Hyderabad ,who transformed Indo-US relations to a strategic level. Well what can I say, other than that 5000 years of Indian civilization and culture couldn’t convince him to have a ethnic Indian name for his son. i know people naming their children with names like Ghandi and Nehru in Andhra, which are surnames of our great leaders. so its an individual choice and i respect that. Skipper is a native of Chicago but both parents are from India — something that had worried her when it came to the issue of marriage. The handsome man in church soon became her boyfriend, but he was American and Caucasian, far from what she thought her parents would ever accept.

So again, she prayed: “Lord, if this is OK, give me a sign.”

The sign came from the fact that her parents immediately took to her husband-to-be, Matt Skipper, and loved him from the start. And she knew.

“It came from a lot of praying,” she says.

Generalize much? What about the not-so-hot desi girls who date White guys? Maybe, just maybe, it's just about two people falling for each other, ethnicity/religion/tax bracket be damned.

Inter-racial couples of all backgrounds face disparenging remarks from each of their "own kind". Like, "why do our black men go pass up fine sistahs for ugly white girls", etc.

It's jealousy plain and simple.

Let people be with who they want and don't hate just coz they don't want to be with you.

Sheetal or Iced Latte: please choose one handle and stick with it, it's the courteous thing to do.

Interesting to note that 5 out of the top ten lookers in that list are non-whites: 3 african-americans, a burmese and an indian.

That and the remark about the "little blonde" being replaced by the indian girl tells me that this list was concocted by a politically correct multi-racial group of writers.

its interesting that you bring this up..We have parallels with the asian community. I've heard/seen that before. Hot lil Korean spinner would rather hook up with tall lanky white dude than someone from her race and its kind of common because I know a lot of my asian brothers who want to date from their race gripe and bitch about it:) Its almost like an invisible social hierarchy And the same goes for desi guys, I have a lot of friends who date white girls just because they think it brings them more social value " Look at me FOB minority guy pulling from the majority race" However for me its never really been race, its whether I was attracted to the person or not and it so happens I have never gone brown :)

Kannan:

What's a spinner?

Kannan:

I think part of the issue may be that Asian cultures are more traditional in terms of gender roles and it may be that the expectations that the Asian women feel they might have to live up to (or down to, depending on one's viewpoint), may not factor in a relationship with an American or European white man.

Did anyone notice that Number 10 on the list is also an Indian girl?

Scroll to the bottom. Her name is Jamie Skipper.

She's also a Republican which rules it out for me. Where are the desi Green (http://www.gp.org/) women?? ;)

Dang, that's overrepresentation by a factor of 6 (4% of Hill Hotties vs. 2/3 of 1% of the pop at large).

I actually think this episode of Desi Dilemmas addresses some of the challenges of dating within-(ethnic)group. They apply to everyone, but when you're a minority, the odds are lower (even if the %s are consistent).
