Mutineers in London?Meetups!

Hey folks - my notorious volume of biz travel continues & I’m going to be across the pond this week for a conference + some meetings in Central London.

Because one of the oft-repeated requests has been more meetups in more cities, I thought I’d post a shoutout and see if we had any readers over there to try and schedule a pub night or something.

Anyone up for drinks on Thursday night? Suggestions for locations?

I’m staying at a hotel off of Oxford street but know London pretty well and can travel just about anywhere.

Go to Khan's...best restaurant...it's at the Bayswater underground stop. Walk out of the station, make a left, go about 2-3 blocks and make another left...you can't miss it.

Vinod, Oxford Street (near the Circus?) -- very posh :)

no trip to stan is complete without catching a disease from eating bad food at brick lane

No one in London? It might just be me V, which is hardly worth making an effort for! Shame, would've been interesting to see any other London-based Sepiites.

Oh, no don't do Bayswater - tis in the wilderness! Much better to head for Soho there are quite a few great bars that way (but I'm drawing a complete blank right now) ...

What would you like Vinod? Bar or pub?

I would suggest the outdoor bars at the Queen Elizabeth/ Royal Festival Hall at South bank. They come with views to die for.

Alternatively, there are some really nice bars in the Canary Wharf area. Via Fossa, 38 and 1802 spring to mind willingly.

A London meetup sounds brilliant. Wish I were closer (Amsterdam ... do-able ... and yet ...).

Oh Vinod. If only I were there to seduce entertain you. Get seriously trashy and hit Boujis or Eclipse in South Kensington. Or just go to any bar in Soho, tell them you know me, and let the free drinks flow ;)

Ooh, Avoid Canary Wharf. Its like the attack of the clones, though these will be wearing suits and obsessively tinkering with their blackberries.

If you want a good night out, head to Old Street. Start off at the Hoxton Bar and Grill and make your way to Cargo. Brick lane is a good idea as well, though avoid the curry houses and head to Cafe 1001 or Vibe bar.

Have a good one!

Crikey, this is a collection of bad advice. Speaking as a Londoner and also someone who chose the same bar to go to on the same night in San Fran as you Vinod, so clearly a man with good taste.

The only sound tips are from 00rush, agree completely. SR's recommendation is also cool (we had a PP meetup there recently) but getting a bit nippy to be sitting outside now, and the indoors of the Southbank bars is mediocre.

Stop being so posh, you uppity Brits; just grab some beers and head to Hyde Park. It's open till late and even when it closes, you can easily jump the walls;)

hey folks -

So, looks like there's rough consensus around Hoxton Bar and Grill on Old Street. (is this it?) I'll post a notice in the morning and we'll see who shows up. How does 730pm or so sound?

koffie verkeerd -- wild... I should've posted - I was in Amsterdam just 2 weeks ago for the IBC conference. I didn't have too much free time BUT, had I known there was a mutineer out there, I'd have tried to do something. Oh well... next time.

Sin -- after a comment like that, I'll make a special trip out here next time you've got a free weekend - but you'll understand if I bring some SF friends who'd *really* appreciate the attention ;-)

I'm in - but will be late ... I'll be the lost looking short lass with the funny accent ...

Have fun, y'all, and definitely, Vinod, next time you're heading to Amsterdam, let me know and we'll see what we can rustle up.

Y'all should give a heads up when you're heading towards Amsterdam.

To anyone and everyone:

Vinod's comment #16 has inspired me to apprise you as loudly as I can (HELLO! HELLO!) of the fact that there is at least 1 (one) mutineer in France, and should any of you ever be contemplating organising a get-together when passing through (anywhere, anywhere in the country, I tell you!), I will be there barring serious injury or death.

brown elf -- where in France? I'm in Paris every couple of months or so and our largest branch office is in Bordeaux...

 22 · sr23 on September 26, 2007 02:22 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

i'd like to come but not sure i qualify - can a passing reader of the blog qualify as a mutineer? ;-)
hoxton is a good choice!

 23 · brownelf on September 26, 2007 03:19 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Oh, I could totally make it to either Paris or Bordeaux; just let me know far enough in advance. I'm in between the two, 40 minutes south of Limoges.

Bong Breaker, if you're there, I'm there. Your half-gora self has to help me represent, yo. :p

 25 · koffie verkeerd on September 27, 2007 12:20 PM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

Meena, are you in Amsterdam too?

 26 · my_dog_jagat on September 30, 2007 09:16 AM · Direct link · “Quote”(?)

One more for Paris -- let me know in advance (the earlier the better).
