I guess MC Vikram and Ludakrishna aren’t the only dynamic desi duo doing creative reinterpretations of hip-hop:
I can’t get over their names, Pari and Harvin…sorry, allow me to be accurate—I can’t get over ONE of their names, because I always thought it was a very bad word in Malayalam.
Random Uncle: Molay, what did you get for Christmas?
Three-year old me: Pari!
Random Uncle: *thud* (falls over in horror)
My dad: She’s so funny!
Beyond that, I must say that I was somewhat impressed with the quality of the video (though I’m rarely on YouTube, so I’m sure all the youths of today have ridonkulous video editing skillz of which I am unaware).
Once the backup dancers started..um…cranking…or light bulb-changing specifically, I was surprised at the level of thought put in to this lunacy. Backup dancers! It must have been fun to walk by all THAT. Where’s the “Making the Video” for this, complete with confused non-desis watching on the street corner?
Anyway, it’s Friday and we’re (read: I’m) stressed, so a bit of light-hearted spoofery seems apposite. It was cute enough that I’m willing to forgive Harvin (whom I assume put it on the News tab) for bringing this wee bit of awareness of Soulja Boy in to my world; I was proud of the fact that I had never heard “Crank Dat”, but for you excessively mustachioed kids, I’ll make this very good exception. Oh, who am I kidding. My motive for posting this was zimble—after you watch, I will not be the only one who has the words I used for my title STUCK IN THEIR HEAD all day.

Still, I sure hope more serious Desi hop-hop artists begin to emerge stateside (I do know of some), as more diversity would be great.

Pari means angel in Hindi. Parinda means bird. However, in this case, I think it's a shortened version of Parinder or something.

While at Ammamma and Thataya's (apologies in advance for mispellings) I was sippin' on some Maaza mango juice, noting that it contained Alphonso mangos which are apparently only grown in India. Needless to say I found it rather interesting that the Maaza bottle had a Dutch internet address (www.maaza.nl)and was bottled in Belgium. Grown in India, bottled in Belgium and ?exported out of Holland.

Aren't overtly commercial plugs outlawed on the Mutiny? Harvin's "comments" above seem to definitely cross the line. Or maybe it's just cynical moi at work again.
Its surprisingly sad that American Born (Confused) Desis still find ridiculing Desi Born Desi accents and so on funny or even mildly entertaining. I thought you guys did not want to be 'confused' no more! PariandWhatever get a life, do somethin original. There is nothing that makes you better than a person from India with an accent.
Pari or Paari is a famous Tamil King. Many tamil boys are named Pari. King Pari is famous for his amazing generosity especially to a Jasmine vine. It was struggling in the breeze as he was driving by in his chariot. He parked his ride under the vine for support and walked home.
It took more than just DBD accents to make that video funny. The lyrics and the parody of a hip-hop song were a big part of it. I don't think they're trying to ridicule anyone. They're just trying to make us ALL laugh. Yes, you too.

I mean,if(and a big if,I personally found the lyrics to be about as inane and unfunny as lets say Norbitt) its only the content thats funny,not putting on the accent should work too right?

There have been sooo many versions of this on youtube...and some of them are really quite cool! High school kids are adapting this to lots of stuff. I saw one the other day that was for the school's food drive or something, and it was pretty chill. These guys look like they're in high school too.
The thing is, this song has lost all its novelty--or likability for me. I can do the dance and all..but seriously it drives you crazy. During rallies or just during lunch at school; once you hear that beginning beat, people start doing the dance--like seriously the entire school just gets up and starts doing it in the middle of whatever they were doing-- and it gets annoying after the 5000th time. And just as I was getting good at the dance too :(

Also, I'm saddened by the fact that I'm not a savvy enough Malayalee to know what 'pari' means, much less even heard the word before.... unless of course I'm completely mis-pronouncing it. Which is entirely possible.

As for the crowds, it was really entertaining seeing people gather around us, we had a lot of photos taken, and even a magazine that was doing a shoot nearby came and took photos.
A behind the scenes, blooper reel, and remix cut with cameos will be coming out, so keep a look out!
enjoyed the remix, but, sometimes, a video and a song are just meant to be.
