In Memory of SameerIn Memoriam

Sameer Bhatia passed away peacefully this morning.

On his wedding day

The words of Kumar Bhatia, Sameer’s father:

It was difficult to see him suffer like this…It seemed to me that all the prayers, blessings and love form everyone were allowing him to ride the ship of prayers and blessings through turbulent waters which otherwise he would have had to swim through on his own. ~

Sameer, his bride, his loving family and his battalion of devoted friends are in our thoughts and prayers.

Many folks would have accepted defeat in the face of such an adversity with odds overwhelmingly stacked against them. Amazing is a very small word to describe the spirit of this man and his family and well wishers who fought till the end.
Even though they were not able to save him, they significantly increased the bone marrow bank for indians and I am sure it will save a lot of lives in the future. Him and his friends have my deepest respect!

May his soul find peace in heaven.
May those who he left behind, find peace in their memories of him.
May God bless them at such a difficult time.

Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

fyi... Sameer's website has been updated with a message from his family -

Dear Friends of Sameer and Reena,

As most of you know by now, Sameer left us this morning a little before 5 AM for a higher abode. He left after a valiant and positive struggle with leukemia and the subsequent accumulation of issues from multiple chemotherapies. We felt the love of many hospital staff members who had looked after him in their efforts to nurture him to health.

His last rites were performed starting at 3:30 PM by Swami Bhaskaranandaji and Swami Avikaranandaji of the Vedanta Society of Western Washington according to the Hindu tradition, and the cremation followed....

Because of Sameer and Vinay (and your efforts to promote their stories, Anna), I and thousands of others registered to become bone marrow donors. In this time of grief for Sameer, I hope that his loved ones will take some comfort in knowing that many lives will be saved because of their efforts to educate South Asian Americans about this great need. May he be at peace.

so heartbreaking, Sameer seems like such a model for our community, and it is so sad to see that he is gone. His life can inspire us all to become more active in the community, register to be donors and encourage our family and friends to do the same. Thank you for keeping us updated.

This is heartbreaking news... I have tears in my eyes too from reading this. Just went on the website and saw the updates and the memorial slideshow...Sameer obviously lived his life and fought his disease with such tenacity, courage and spirit that he is really someone for whom those often-used words inspiration, hero and role model ring true. Sending prayers for his family and friends too.
